A quick introduction to Power BI

Introduction to Power BI

Power BI is a cloud-based tool for reporting and data analysis purposes. It is a very user-friendly tool and appeals to business users, data analysts, power users, and report authors. Power BI has several components that work seamlessly together. For a new adopter, this could be not very clear at first. When there is a need to deliver a complex solution, all these components deliver just that. Though not everyone may use all the components at all the time but think of it this way – every component used by Power BI has a particular role to play. Below you will find a list of the most commonly used components.

  • Power BI Desktop
    • Power Query
    • DAX
  • Power BI Service
  • Power BI Gateway(s)
  • Power BI Mobile App
  • Power BI Report Server
    • Power BI Report Builder
  • Power BI Explorer

Since this tool is rapidly evolving with monthly updates, I recommend following the official Microsoft Blog, their documentation center, and a robust community forum page. These pages will not only get you started but also will enrich your learning.

Through this blog, I intend to share my knowledge and learn from others. Previously, I have written about Power BI Desktop, Power Query, and a few blogs on some of the use cases.
